The Rayat Shikshan Sastha founded by late Padmabhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil in 1919, is one of the leading educational institutions in Asis. The value of its contribution to education in general is enormously great, as it has from the very beginning, tried all its best to lay emphasis on the downtrodden, the poor and ignorant who really form the major bulk of society. Late Padmabhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil was a man of the masses who dovoted all his mind and life to the cause of their education. He had an incisive understanding of the social ills that be set his times and had fully realized the dire need of the spread of the education.

He believed that education alone could eradicate illiteracy, untouchability, caste - hierarchy, money lending, superstitions, social and econimic inequality. All his life, he tried to translate this belief into reality. He was the Prophet of the poor, the weak, the dispossessed and left no stone unturned for their upliftment. Such renowned person has established this educational institution with very specific aims and objectives.

Padmabhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil (Anna) was born on 22 September, 1887 at Kumbhoj, in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. He had been influence by Rajarshi Chh. Shahu Maharaj, king of Kolhapur who advocated the social equality and promoted education for the backward communities of Maharashtra. He was also inspired by the work of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. While working he was also involved in the activities of Satya-Shodhak Samaj. He devoted his time for spreading awareness of social ills among society. He realized education of the masses can be the remedy for social ills. In his view, education is the means to empower the masses to enjoy the fruits of freedom and to emancipate them from social, economic and cultural slavery. Thus, he founded the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha by opening a Boarding House at Kale (Tal-Karad, Dist-Satara) in 1919.
